UPDATE: 12/21/2017
Tiffany Haddish’s memoir, The Last Black Unicorn, has raised several eyebrows since its release, with the star sharing that ex-husband William Stewart was physically abusive, a claim he denies. Stewart now plans to sue the comedian, according to TheJasmineBrand.
Stewart will reportedly sue for libel, specifically addressing accusations that he abused her to the point of losing their child by miscarriage. He’s chosen Michael T. Sterling (Eva Marcille’s boyfriend) and E. Carlos Tanner III as legal his representatives, the same lawyers who are currently representing Russell Simmons through a slew of sexual misconduct allegations.
Haddish admits that some stories were exaggerated, believing book editors wanted something juicier. Learn more about the abuse accusations and Stewart’s reaction below.

Tiffany Haddish’s new memoir, The Last Black Unicorn, includes some pretty raw truths about her upbringing in South Central, Los Angeles, living with a schizophrenic mom and surviving an abusive relationship. While fans of the comedian admire how forthcoming the star has become, her ex-husband has taken issue with his portrayal in the book, with Haddish admitting he may have come off worse than intended.
In a excerpt obtained by E!, Haddish recalls when her husband at the time, William Stewart, became irate after seeing her speak with fellow comic Tom Green at a comedy festival.
“He grabbed me by the collar, he was like, ‘It’s time to go to the room now,’ in front of everybody,” she wrote. “Just snatched me by my shirt, and pulled me to the elevator and threw me in it…once we got to our hotel room, he was so quick. He snatched me by the neck and slammed me into the wall.”
Haddish addressed the excerpt on Snapchat, admitting that certain stories may have been exaggerated during the editing process, but that she fact checks herself while reading the audio book.
Stewart also denies ever being physically abusive towards the Girls Trip star, likewise believing that editors were likely the ones who exaggerated the stories, as he still considered them to be friends on decent terms before the book dropped.
